Desa ini dulunya sekitar tahun 1920-1930an adalah sebuah tempat penelitian zaman Uni Soviet, dan tempat bersinggah para suku nomaden pengembala rusa. Namun kebijaksanaan pemerintah Soviet pada saat itu mewajibkan para pengembala rusa itu untuk menetap di lokasi tersebut, dengan alasan agar budaya mereka dapat berkembang.
Kesulitan sehari hari warga desa disana tentunya adalah suhu yang teramat rendah. Dimana mengakibatkan semuanya menjadi beku. Air membeku, batre / aki kehilangan tenaga bahkan para penduduk kadang harus menyalakan mobil seharian agar mesin tidak ikut membeku sehingga sulit dihidupkan. Kesulitan lain adalah pada saat prosesi pemakaman jenazah yang membutuhkan waktu tiga hari, dimulai dari mencairkan tanah yang membeku untuk bisa digali, dilanjutkan dengan meletakkan batu bara disekitarnya begitu seterusnya hingga liang lahat dirasa cukup dalam untuk meletakkan jenazah. Untuk menjaga agar tidak kekurangan nutrisi walapun sudah lebih dari 10 tahun mereka menetap disana, para penduduk desa meminum susu rusa dan kuda. Daging rusa dan kuda beseta susunya adalah hidangan yang mereka andalkan sehari hari, dikarenakan tidak ada sayuran dan tumbuhan yang bisa hidup disana.
